shower cleaning hack

I don’t know about you, but cleaning the shower ranks somewhere between organizing the garage and scheduling a colonoscopy on my list of fun things to do. The soap scum. The water spots. The mysterious pink stuff that seems to appear overnight. Ugh! But I recently tried a ridiculously simple shower-cleaning hack, and it actually works: keep a dish wand—the kind with a soap-filled handle—right in the shower. Suddenly cleaning the shower doesn’t require rubber gloves, a bucket, or an afternoon of procrastination.

Is it glamorous? No. Will anyone at a dinner party be impressed that you keep a dish wand in your shower? Probably not. But a clean shower with almost no extra effort leaves more time for the things we actually want to do—travel, lunch with friends, pickleball, Mahjong, or pretty much anything other than scrubbing grout.

Why This Hack Works So Well

The secret lies in the combination of ingredients and the timing. Fill the dish wand with half dish soap and half white vinegar - that's it!! The dish soap cuts through oily residue left by conditioners, body washes, and "miracle" moisturizers, while white vinegar breaks down mineral deposits and soap scum. Keeping the wand in the shower means you can clean in small bursts, right when the grime is easiest to remove.

The warm water and steam from your shower loosen dirt and buildup, so you don’t have to scrub hard. Do the glass one day, the tile the next, and maybe tackle the faucet while you’re waiting for your conditioner to work its magic. A quick scrub and rinse, and you’re done. I actually cleaned my shower before I had even dried my hair—which may be the closest I ever come to feeling like a domestic goddess.
