Winter porch pots

We have been watching people make easy winter porch pots all over the internet and they look so beautiful! We wanted to try it out to see if they really are easy to put together and look as good as the professional ones.

Here is a recap of what to do:

  1. Find a tall heavy-duty porch urn (this works with a smaller pot too). You can find them at any home & garden store or this porch pot from Amazon is a great choice.

  2. Here is a tip: Start by putting an old mum leftover from fall (it can be dead) in the planter as a base to support the greenery and sticks. If you don't have a mum, you can simply use a pot filled with dirt or sand.

  3. Begin by adding large sticks - we used cut birch branches - and larger pieces of greenery. We cut our greenery from trees around the yard but you can buy them at a local nursery. Here are a few birch sticks and artificial greenery items that will work too. The pot seems to look best with a few different types of greenery so don't be afraid to mix and match.

  4. Finally, finish it off with some pinecones, red ornaments or berry picks, and a bow. Voilá!

Our easy winter porch pot may not have looked as good as some of the professional ones out there, but we literally spent less than 5 minutes on it and we used items we found in the yard or around the house. If we were a bit more intentional about the items we put in the arrangement and spent a few more minutes prettying the whole thing up, it would have been fantastic.

Honestly, don't be intimidated by trying this on your own or think you have to spend a fortune in creating something that would be really lovely for your front porch. It was definitely an easy project and the dead mum was a great hack and so helpful - you couldn't even tell it was under all of that greenery and supported all of the branches perfectly!
