Can anyone relate?! We definitely can! To keep your pumpkins and mums looking stunning for weeks, follow our simple steps to ensure they remain at their best and last longer!



Preserve those Pumpkins!

Pumpkins add such a pop of color to any front porch but they can start to get soft and mushy if left out in the elements for too long. A quick trick to the rescue! Simply wipe the pumpkin with a little bit of floor polish, petroleum jelly or WD-40 (we used floor polish in the video) to give the outside a protective outer layer from the moisture. Quick and easy to do and your pumpkins will shine this fall!



Dunk your Mums!

We just learned that we have watering our mums all wrong! It turns out that mums take in water from the bottom up so you want bring your mums home and submerge the pot in a bucket of water. Let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. Your mums will thank you. Depending on the temperature and climate in your area, you may have to do this a couple of times but your mums will be properly hydrated and stay fresher for much longer. To test if you need to dunk your mums again, simply lift your pot, if it feels light, it might be time to get out your bucket!

We have seen that as well. Giving the pumpkins or gourds a good wipe down and then seal with something like we suggested seems to work best. Hairspray can help preserve a pumpkin's appearance by locking in moisture and, more effectively, by deterring animals from eating it due to its sticky texture. However, its effectiveness in preventing rot is limited, with some tests showing more mold development compared to other methods. Hope that helps!
