Kitchen remodel on a budget

Don't miss a thing with The Hive Women and Buzz from The Hive!

Recently, my husband and I spent a week on Marco Island with my son and his family. Walking along the beach, searching for shells and splashing in the pool made for a fabulous time for everyone. I noticed the many manicured flower beds and beautiful patios that reflected their own design aesthetic and the personalities for each of the properties. I started to imagine and dream what possibilities could be created in my own patio.

When we returned home, I looked at my patio. It was tired and lacked any personality. So, I went to work on a new vision. The first thing I did, was remove everything from the patio and looked at it with new eyes. No clutter, just a blank slate to be reimagined. Most of us can’t throw everything out and start from scratch, but with a few easy additions that won’t break the bank, we can create our own oasis. As the weather cools, its the perfect time to do a patio refresh and enjoy it throughout the fall.

Next up, do a deep clean including chairs, tables, cushions and floors. Don’t forget any cobwebs that may be trapped in corners and near the ceiling. I needed to replace some exterior trim and do a little paint touch up as well to freshen up the space. Then, I took an honest look at what wasn’t working and set those items aside to donate or sell on Facebook Market Place.  I arranged my furniture layout a bit different for a change keeping in mind the traffic flow. It was time to build my vision and create my little oasis. If your current cushions need an overhaul, no worries, you can find many styles and colors at local retailers. With the main pieces in place, I could imagine new pillows, planters and accessories and maybe an outdoor rug to anchor the space.

The right planter can enhance your design aesthetic and lush plants will soften the area and add the Zen to create a calming space. From Traditional to modern find a style that reflects your good taste.

Or consider a tabletop planter for dining, coffee tables and hanging baskets that would provide more color and texture, or add some fun, colorful planters. I found many styles at my local garden center.  Keep in mind that fall will offer a variety of new textures and flowers.

Another, item to consider adding is a fire table for those cooler nights. They are coming soon and who doesn't love sitting around a fire when the weather is crisp and cool! Hanging a string of patio lights, pulling in lanterns or candles, and adding a fun quirky accent table or garden ornament can add some whimsey and a pop of color.

Whatever you decide, make your patio refresh uniquely you and have some fun while you are at it!

Great tips - thanks Barb - I love fall evenings out on my porch and I am now inspired to go give it a little face lift :)!
